About Us

From Healthy Smiles -- Dental Care Centre for Children!

Dear parents,

WELCOME TO HEALTHY SMILES -- KIDS AND ORTHODONTIC DENTAL CLINIC!

Every Child deserves a Dental Health! When a single smile brings joy, its worth protecting it right?
Oral Health begins with CLEAN TEETH.

It is rightly stated that " PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE " and is very important to take proper care of your child’s teeth from a very early age which will help them to have healthy gums and teeth. Parents have to inculcate good oral care habits (brushing and flossing twice a day) in children to prevent tooth decay. Children's first(milk) teeth are important because, apart from being needed for chewing and speaking, they help to maintain space for the permanent teeth, developing underneath them in the jaws. Early dental check-ups for kids will ensure their mouth to be healthier and cavity free.

Taking your child to a pediatric dentist is the best way that you can begin preventing future dental and oral problems for your child. Paediatric Dentists are primary and preventive as well as therapeutic dental care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. Remember, most dental diseases are preventable. Unfortunately, many a time we come across much advanced stages of dental problems! This is primarily due to lack of information on preventive care or absence of a painful condition.

Another important deterrent to seeking dental care is fear of dentistry. Dental fear is a widely experienced problem. We would like to discuss with you few things regarding unusual behaviour of children during their first dental visit. The onset of dental fear often occurs in childhood. Keep in mind that it is perfectly normal for children to be fearful –some are afraid of being separated from their parents; others are afraid of the unknown; others are afraid of being injured. A Pediatric Dentist who treats children will know how to cope with your child's fears and anxiety and put them at ease. Parents and Pediatric Dentists each play an important role in making a child's first dental appointment a positive experience. Pleasant visits to the dental office promote the establishment of trust and confidence in your child that will last for a lifetime. Our goal, along with our staff, is to help all children feel good about visiting the dentist and teach them how to take care for their teeth. From our special office-design, to our communication style, our main concern is what is best for your child.

We have developed a protocol for child management in our clinic. We need to know the purpose of your visit. If there is any emergency care required, it will be delivered to the child as soon as possible. Please fill up the details on the case paper carefully and inform the doctor about the medical history of the child as mentioned in the case paper. The first visit is mainly a consultation with the doctor. It has two goals : To start developing a rapport with a child and to complete history taking, diagnosis and treatment plan. At times X-rays are required to come to a definite diagnosis. Depending upon the co-operation of the child and urgency of diagnosis, the same may be taken in the first visit. Once a final diagnosis is established, the parents will be explained about the treatment plan including preventive measures, approximate schedule for accomplishing it and the rough estimate of the charges. Parents must sign a consent form prior to starting actual treatment.

We request parents to wait outside the operatory while the child is undergoing treatment from second or third appointment as required. This establishes a better rapport with the child. The 1:1 communication between the child and the dentist is the key to successful management of children. A child may cry due to various reasons in a dental clinic. Noise of certain machines, taste of certain medicines(anesthetic spray, for eg), not wanting to get the treatment done, getting bored, are few examples. As long as the child does not cry due to pain, there is nothing to worry at all. Crying does not cause any bodily harm to a child!

Adolescents : Adolescents have special needs. Appearance and self image are very important to them. Decayed or poorly positioned teeth or jaws might make them more self conscious. Teens also eat frequently and unhealthy snack foods tend to become a major part of their regular diet. We provide a professional, sensitive, and caring approach to restoring, guiding teeth and teaching a preventive dental health care through the teens high school years.

Young people with special needs-- An integral part of our education is concerned with the medical and dental health of the special patient. People with significant medical, physical or mental disabilities often present a challenge s to dentists. Our training allows us to address their special needs and provide the best care possible.

HEALTHY SMILES is a Dental Home for your child. We are concerned about your child's oral health care which is an important part of total health. Establishing us as your child's Dental Home provides us the opportunity to implement preventive dental health habits that keep a child free from dental/oral diseases. We focus on Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment of dental diseases and keep current on the latest advances in dentistry for children. Oral habits, such as thumb-sucking, finger-sucking, or pacifiers are also addressed. We(our pediatric dentist) will suggest ways to address prolonged habits, which can create crowded, crooked teeth or bite problems. Early orthodontic recommendations may be made if your child has bite problems or crowding of their teeth.

Every child’s first visit to the dentist should be enjoyable and positive. At Healthy smiles -- Dental care centre for children, our mission is to serve the oral health needs of children in a fun and engaging environment, and in fact, we specialize in it!
